Baby poop chart

Most parents maintain a baby poop chart, in order to ascertain the number of meals and the time of baby poop. When taking care of the baby, it is difficult to remember the time when they pooped and thus the chart comes in very handy. If your baby is passing loose motions then it will help you in identifying the reason for behind the problem.

If you do not know how to make such a chart, you can easily download it from the internet. All you have to do is select the type of chart that suits your needs and download it on your computer.

It is important to maintain a log of baby poop and also include other details like the appearance and consistency of it. During the first few days after birth, it will be dark and sticky and this is referred to as meconium. After a few weeks the baby may pass green colored poop that is normal. But it can be a reason of worry if the baby poop contains mucus or if it is dark green in color.

A baby poop chart is very useful when it comes to assessing your baby’s general health condition. It contains useful information like the color, texture and frequency of the baby stools. There are various categories of baby poop that are classified based on color representations.

According to the experts, a newborn poop is black in color. A healthy breastfed baby poop is yellow to brown in color. It is watery as compared to a bottle fed.

Moreover, a bottle fed baby poop has a strong odor as compared to healthy breastfed baby poop. When you are starting solids for your baby, there may be changes in the color and texture of the baby poop. If the baby is constipated, one may also notice blood. When the baby is passing very hard stools, it may cause bleeding in the anal muscles and this explains the presence of blood in the stools.

Some of the alarming signs in baby poop include yellow urine accompanied with yellow stools that indicate jaundice infection. On the other hand, if it is light colored, it may also indicate the presence of liver disease.

Blood in baby’s poop

Most parents panic when they see blood in poop and rush the baby to the emergency room. According to the doctors, blood in baby poop is caused due to rupture of small veins in the anal muscles that is caused by hard stools.

Thus, if there is blood in baby poop and it is associated with very hard stools then you may need to consult the doctor for advice. The doctor may either change the diet of the baby and he may also prescribe stool softening medicine. If there is blood in baby poop especially when the baby is breastfeeding, it could be due to ingestion of blood from a cracked nipple.

In certain cases, when the cracked nipple oozes blood, the baby may ingest it, though it is harmless for the baby it may pass out of the stool through bowel movements. Thus, observing the poop of a baby for signs of changes in the baby’s health is very important.

The consistency and texture of the stools depends on the diet. If the baby is being breastfed, the stools will be watery as compared to bottle-fed babies. If a diaper rash appears, then one must apply a diaper rash cream in order to avoid irritation caused during bowel movements.
