Sialography is a specialized radiographic technique in which a dye or contrast medium is introduced in a retrograde fashion into the duct of the salivary gland.

Then a radiograph is taken to study the pathology of the major salivary glands to know the condition of it.

Mainly iodine-based contrast agents are used in this type of extra oral radiography.

Sialography is contraindicated in acute infection of the salivary glands.

Sialography is mainly indicated in the case of stones urhin the duct or Sjogren’s syndrome.
