The term “hypothalamus” has been derived from the Greek word that means “under chamber” as at that time it was a mystery understanding what does the hypothalamus secrete that controls the functioning of the entire body.

The corticotrophin releasing hormone is secreted by the parvocellular neurosecretory cells and it stimulates the pituitary gland to produce the adenocorticotropic hormone. It also secretes the Thyrotropin, dopamine or prolactin inhibiting hormone, growth releasing hormone, somatostatin or growth inhibiting hormone, gonadotropin releasing hormone, oxytocin and vasopressin.
